Mission & Vision

Vision of The University

Considering the circumstances leading to the enactment of the Law establishing the Kebbi State University of Science and Technology, Aliero, the Vision is to provide a world-class University that will provide qualitative education with particular focus on the areas of science and technology with a view to producing top quality graduates for the development of the State in particular, Nigeria and other countries in general. The vision is therefore predicted on the development of the individual in the first instance and then reaping the multiplier effects of acquired knowledge and skills for the benefit of society.

Mission Statement of The University

The Mission of the University is to rigorously pursue productive scientific and technological research leading to social, economic and political developments as well as the transformation of Kebbi State from an agricultural to an industrialized

state. Within this context, it is generally accepted in Kebbi State that the prospects of economic upturn are realizable through qualitative university education. Hence, the Kebbi State University of Science arid Technology, as conceived, has been designed to play a crucial role towards facilitating this positive trend of economic and technological development.

As a result, the University will provide conducive environment where teaching, learning and research can take place, so that it can become an Institution that provides requisite knowledge and skills for self-reliance and development The University will through its academic programme provide opportunities for students to acquire knowledge and practical experience which will enable them to be more of job creators than job seekers.

Philosophy of The University

The Philosophy of the University is anchored on the Kebbi State Policy on Education which is also in line with the National Policy on Education. The philosophy has the following cardinal principles:

 

a) The development of the individual into a sound and effective citizen;

b) The provision of equal access to educational opportunities for all citizens of the State at primary, secondary and tertiary levels both inside and outside the formal school system;

c) The production of self-reliant, scientific and technical manpower at all levels; and

d) The full integration of the individual into the community.

It is therefore evident that the philosophy of the University must be geared towards self-realization, better human relationship, individual and national efficiency, effective citizenship, national consciousness, national unity as well as towards social, cultural, economic, political, scientific and technological progress. Accordingly, the philosophy is designed to guide the university properly to enable it produce graduates who are not only readily employable but are capable of generating employment by making use of the vast natural resources available in Kebbi State.

Objectives of The University
According to the Law establishing the Kebbi State University of Science and Technology {University of Kebbi State Bill 2005), the objectives of the University are as follows:

a) To encourage the advancement of learning and to hold out to all persons without distinction of race, creed, sex or political conviction, the opportunity of acquiring a higher and liberal education;

b) To provide courses of instruction and other facilities for the pursuit of learning in all its branches and to make those facilities available on proper terms to such persons as are equipped to benefit from them;

c) To encourage and promote scholarship and conduct research in all fields of learning and human endeavour;

d) To relate its activities to the social, cultural and economic needs of the people of Nigeria;

e) To develop a top quality core faculty (academic staff) that is committed to true scholarship and is of world standard;

f) To attract and retain well-qualified undergraduate and graduate students and prepare them for successful learning and career in programmes of distinction that combine academic excellence with sound morals;

g) To integrate entrepreneurial skill education in all programmes offered in the University in such a way that graduates will be resourceful, self-reliant and job creators;

h) To put in place Information and Communication Technology (ICT) facilities necessary for building the best computer systems and Internet network to enhance course delivery, learning, worldwide communication and exchange of ideas in the academic community;

i) To develop academic partnership and collaboration in teaching and research with universities within and outside the shores of Nigeria so that the products from the university will be relevant in a globalized word;

j) To ensure effective implementation of the provisions of the approved masterplan and academic brief documents to guarantee quality education delivery, and,

k) To carry out other activities appropriate for a university of the highest standard.

 

Strategies For Achieving Stated Objectives

In other to achieve the University's stated objectives, the following measures will be adopted:

a) Setting up academic and physical development priorities and ensuring that the prioritizing exercise is well designed, focused and capable of achieving the objectives of the University;

b) Setting up Planning and Implementation Committees to ensure strict compliance to approved guidelines for the establishment of a state university in Nigeria;

c) Ensuring that adequate funds for recurrent and capital projects are allocated to the University by the State government;

d) Making prudent use of available human and material resources available to the University;

e) Involving the private sector in the development of the University through a cordial town and gown relationship;

f) Ensuring that staff are sufficiently motivated to facilitate their maximum contributions towards the development of the University;

g) Paying adequate attention to students' welfare by putting in place health, housing /hostels, sports and recreational facilities;

h) Putting in place various sources and intensifying internally generated revenue through consultancy services, sponsored researches and business ventures to compliment government's subventions to the University;

i) Ensuring that top quality students are admitted into the various programmes offered and also in line with the carrying capacity of the University,

j) Providing teaching and learning materials like visual and audio aids, computing facilities etc.;

k) Recruiting top quality academic and non-academic staff to run the activities of the University,

1) Having linkage arrangements with industries, institutions, research agencies and other relevant organizations to encourage cross fertilization of ideas, exchange of staff, equipment etc;

m) Collaborating with the National Universities Commission in areas of academic standards, accreditation of programmes, virtual library and the Nigerian Universities Network to ensure that students access books and journals worldwide; and,


n) Institutionalizing efficient monitoring system for the academic and non-academic programmes of the University to avoid wastes and to guarantee maximum utilization of available resources.
