The University Library
The University Library is regarded as the centre of academic activities in a University. It is a major source of knowledge and information within the university System. The University Library will be regarded as the nucleus of the University's academic activities and as such priority attention will be even to its design, construction, equipment, stocking and staffing. The Library unit will handle all books affairs of the University including the procurement, storage, registration of users, lending and collection devices.
The University Library will be computerized. A multiple access electronic catalogue of accessions will be created to ease search and access to reading materials by students and staff. Internet facilities will be available in the University library to enable users browse through books and journals as well as send or receive reading materials by e-mails.
The Library Unit will be headed by a qualified and competent Librarian who will be responsible to the Vice-Chancellor for the day-to-day operation of the library.
The University will take full advantage of the services provided by the National Virtual Library at Abuja to enrich the quality of scholarship. It will also establish linkages with other universities, government agencies and publishing companies with a view to exchange books and non-book materials for the benefit of the University Community.
Again, aware of the role of the University Library in the attainment of set goals, not less than 10% of the total annual recurrent expenditure will be devoted to the sustenance of the library. Funds will be sourced from other sources to ensure quality, quantity and currency of books and journals in the library.
Apart from the Central University Library, faculties and departmental libraries will be developed. These wil! stock materials relevant to disciplines and programmes offered by the faculty or department.
